The first Borderlands is credited by the Guinness Book of World Records to have over 17 million different possible guns that could be generated, while the latter games expand further on this. The statistics of the equipment, such as the amount of damage and accuracy for a gun and special elemental attacks, are procedurally generated, and use a loot color-coding system similar to games like World of Warcraft to indicate rarity, ranging from white (most common), to purple and orange (most rare and powerful). This equipment is randomly dropped by foes, found in containers around Pandora, or obtained as rewards for completing quests. Some maps allow the player to spawn an armed vehicle to help traverse large maps or to deal with more powerful enemies.Ī core feature of Borderlands is the loot system, which generates a variety of guns (such as pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and rocket launchers), shield generators, grenade modifications, and class modifications. Otherwise, players must reach certain points on the edges of the map to move into a different area. The games are divided into several maps, and once players have reached a waypoint station on the map, they can teleport to any other previously visited map. If the player loses their health or falls into bottomless chasms, they respawn at the most recent checkpoint and lose some of their money. Completing quests and defeating foes earns in-game money and experience, which is used for expanding the player's skill tree. Players then work on completing quests and exploring Pandora while dealing with the violent Pandora wildlife, crazed scavengers that have been stranded on the planet, and various military groups that attempt to stop them. Each Vault Hunter has a different skill tree and one or more unique abilities. Players select one of the available characters, representing Vault Hunters that have traveled to the planet Pandora to try to seek its fabled Vault. After developing the mechanics of this shooter-RPG hybrid, Gearbox established the idea of players seeking Vaults on the planet Pandora, comparing the discovery of new loot to opening a Pandora's box. The concept came from Matthew Armstrong's idea to combine the mechanics of first-person shooters like Doom with role-playing games with randomized loot such as Diablo. The Borderlands games are first-person loot shooters, set in an open world, with some role-playing game (RPG) elements ( Tales from the Borderlands, however, is an episodic adventure game). A film adaptation of the series is in development by Lionsgate. This makes it one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. An additional five million copies of Borderlands 3 were sold within five days of release, bringing the total series' net revenues to over US$1 billion. As of November 2022, more than 77 million copies of Borderlands games had been shipped, with 26 million from Borderlands 2. The series has received critical acclaim and commercial success for its loot-driven multiplayer co-op gameplay and its sense of humor. Tales from the Borderlands (2014–2015) is a spin-off episodic graphic adventure game by Telltale Games. The series consists of four games, each with multiple downloadable content packs: Borderlands (2009), Borderlands 2 (2012), Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (2014) by 2K Australia and Borderlands 3 (2019). But instead of thinkingĪbout air particles or water molecules or things like that, we're gonna be thinkingĪbout a magnetic field. How things are kind of, you could say going through a surface. But what do we mean by magnetic, by magnetic flux? Well, like regular flux, we're still dealing with Well that's just the more basic, or for me the more But this flux is gonnaīe some place in between this one and the zero flux because the air isn't goingĮxactly perpendicular. That is exactly normal when we eventually calculate flux. We actually care about the component of the vector of the air And as we will explore later when we get a littleīit more mathy into it. There is going to be air flowing through the actual surface. Well this flux is going to be in between, is going to be in between But the direction of theĪir is neither normal nor exactly in the sameĭirection of the surface. Let's say we took that same original net. So it's not going normal to the surface, perpendicular to the surface. We see if we orient the surface or if we oriented the velocity. Both the magnitude of the velocity and the direction of the velocity. It depends in this case, theĭensity of the substance. Goes through a surface in a given unit of time. So as you can see, when we think about how much of something just flux in the traditional sense. So now, if you said for this surface, you're gonna have a larger flux because there's just gonna be more air is going to go through that in any given unit of time. Gonna have larger flux because there's just more area. So if we stretch that net, in the same, let's say we were to do it, let's say we were to Impede the air flow, let's say we can stretch Now let's say that this theoretical net that actually does not We would say that this one has zero, zero flux. So this one, let's just say that all the air is going exactly in the same direction as the surface, so nothing is going through the surface. The air is going along the surface, not through the surface. Traveling through that net in a given amount of time? Well now very little to zero air is gonna be traveling through that net in any given amount of time. But it's the same net, and you're to make it like this. So what if you were to take the same net and you were to make it like this. That the air is going in the same direction of the surface. Now, what if you were to take the same net and instead of the direction of the air being perpendicular to the surface, be normal to the surface, what if you were to take the net and reorientate it so And this is all relative to my first one. Less fewer molecules traveling through the surface Molecules are the same, and they're going in the same direction. Now what if I were to put that same net and move it up to this high altitude, right over here? That high altitude. Why is our flux increase? Because, well, the density is the same, but in any given amount of time I'm gonna have more things Net a little bit to the right where the density is the same, but the particles are just moving faster. Some type of theoretical net that actually does not But what if we were to take that same net. And so this would have someįlux associated with it. In a certain amount of time? We could say how many molecules are traveling in say, each second. And if we think about the flux, we would say, well how much air is traveling through that net Let's say you were to put a net right over right over here, right over here. And the thing about flux, really of any form, you have to think about a surface. But the trend in the velocity vectors, when I go from the left to the right is roughly the same. We see that in general,Īll of the air is moving in that general direction, But as we move more in that direction, the air is moving faster. Let's say the air on this side is moving is moving at let's say, a medium velocity. And so let's say that the air, let's say the air is. I don't have to drawĪll the air particles, but you get the sense. And let's say the air isĭenser near the bottom of this volume of air, so there's more air down here than there is up here, which is generally true. So if you imagine that this is, this is, I'm just defining a How much of something is flowing through a surface So, first of all, when peopleĪre just talking about flux, and this is the easiest way that I know how to conceptualize it. And then think about how it applies to the idea of magnetic Magnetic Flux. It is generally advisable to check with your commanding officer or other official before wearing multiple warfare pins. Some commands may limit the number of warfare pins that can be worn, while others may have no restrictions. There is no definitive answer to this question as it depends on the regulations set forth by the individual Navy command. How Many Warfare Pins Can You Wear In The Navy? According to Navy policy, sailors who wish to do so must do so within 18 months of reporting to sea. Pin training for Navy shipboard officers began in 1997. The debate over the classification of the submarine warfare pin is likely to continue for some time, but there is no doubt that it is a highly respected award that symbolizes the dedication and skill of those who wear it. However, the Navy has not yet made a formal decision on whether or not the submarine warfare pin falls under the category of special operations. There is no doubt that the skills required to be a successful submarine warfare officer are very specialized, and the pin is a symbol of this fact. However, some have questioned whether or not the submarine warfare pin should be considered a part of the Navy’s special operations. The submarine warfare pin is a coveted award that is given to those who have excelled in this field, and it is considered to be a very prestigious honor. One such role is that of submarine warfare, which has been called one of the most important and demanding jobs in the Navy. As the United States Navy continues to grow and evolve, the roles of its various submarines have come under greater scrutiny. It’s possible that at that point, your text might already be extracted. When switching the system from "Auto" to "On," the front and rear axles are locked at a 50/50 split the reaction time necessary to engage the rear wheels is reduced via an integrated bypass clutch. Using a Rotary Blade Coupling, the rear wheels could be sent up to 100% of the power in fractions of a second. This system allowed the front wheels to receive 100% of the torque until a slip was detected. The four wheel drive system was a newer version of Ford's "Control Trac" 4x4 system, dubbed the Control Trac II 4WD in the Escape. If slipping is detected at the front, more power will be sent to the rear wheels in a fraction of a second. The AWD system normally sends most of the power from the engine to the front wheels. Although not meant for serious off-roading, a full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) system supplied by Dana was optional, which included a locking center differential activated by a switch on the dashboard. Ford and Mazda decided to offer a car-like, unibody design with a fully independent suspension and rack and pinion steering similar to the RAV4 and CR-V in the Escape. Solid rear axles were commonly used on the full-sized truck-based SUVs and Jeep Cherokee due to their ability to carry heavy loads at the expense of a comfortable ride and good handling. Other car makers, Jeep, Toyota and Honda had been offering smaller unibody designs, the Jeep Cherokee (XJ), RAV4 and CR-V respectively. This followed a long history of Mazda-derived Fords, starting with the Ford Courier in the 1970s.Īt the time, larger sport-utility vehicles tended to use pickup truck-based, body-on-frame designs. At first, the twinned models were assembled by Ford in the US for North American consumption, with Mazda in Japan supplying cars for other markets. Powertrains were supplied by Mazda with respect to the base inline-four engine, with Ford providing the optional V6. Although the Escape and Tribute shared the same underpinnings constructed from the Ford CD2 platform (based on Mazda GF underpinnings), the only panels common to the two vehicles were the roof and floor pressings. It was jointly developed with Mazda, in which Ford owned a controlling interest, and was released simultaneously with the Mazda Tribute. The first generation of Ford Escape was released in 2000 for the 2001 model year. Outside of North America, the Ford Escape is sold in Australia, China, and Taiwan. As with previous generations, the fourth-generation Escape is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Sharing a common body and chassis underpinnings (and several engines), the Escape and Kuga are produced in their home markets. Under the mid-2000s "One Ford" globalization strategy, the third and fourth-generation designs of the Escape have been unified with the Ford Kuga, designed by Ford of Europe. In Europe, the Escape was initially branded as the Ford Maverick from 2001 to 2008 (replacing a Nissan-produced SUV). The first two generations used the Ford CD2 platform (jointly developed with Mazda), leading to the release of the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner as with the Escape, both the Tribute and Mariner were sold in North America. Through rebranding, Ford has sold the Escape under several nameplates through its production. In another first, the 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid was the first hybrid-electric vehicle from Ford, and the first hybrid produced as an SUV. The first Ford SUV derived from a car platform, the Escape was slotted below the Ford Explorer in size the Escape is currently sized between the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge. The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV sold by Ford since the 2001 model year. Īnimals that lovers gave as gifts to their beloved also became symbols of pederastic love, such as hares, roosters, deer, felines and oxen, as a metaphor for sexual pursuits. Roses are a symbol of pederasty in ancient Greece: handsome boys were metaphorically called roses by their male admirers in homoerotic poems such as those by Solon, Straton, Meleager, Rhianus, and Philostratos. Eros was responsible for the first rose to sprout on Earth, followed by every flower and herb. The rose is also the sacred flower of Eros, the Greek god of love and sex, and patron of love between men. Since the 2000s, bara has been used by non-Japanese audience as an umbrella term to describe a wide variety of Japanese and non-Japanese gay media featuring love and sex between masculine men. The use of the rose as a prominent symbol of love between males is supposedly derived from the Greek myth of King Laius having affairs with boys under rose trees. "rose tribe") in 1971, the first commercially produced gay magazine in Asia. : 40 Beginning in the 1960s, the term was reappropriated by Japanese gay media: notably with the 1961 anthology Ba-ra-kei: Ordeal by Roses, a collection of semi-nude photographs of homosexual writer Yukio Mishima by photographer Eikoh Hosoe, : 34 and later with Barazoku ( 薔薇族, lit. The term bara ( 薔薇), " rose" in Japanese, has historically been used in Japan as a pejorative for men who love men, roughly equivalent to the English language term " pansy". Roses have been associated with male love in both ancient Greece and modern Japan. According to some interpretations, American poet Walt Whitman used the sweet flag plant to represent homoerotic male love because of its phallic connotations. In 19th-century England, green indicated homosexual affiliations, as popularized by gay author Oscar Wilde, who often wore a green carnation on his lapel. See also: Language of flowers Green carnation Sweet flag plant The gay rights organization Lambda Legal and the American Lambda Literary Foundation derive their names from this symbol. The lambda became associated with Gay Liberation, and in December 1974, it was officially declared the international symbol for gay and lesbian rights by the International Gay Rights Congress in Edinburgh, Scotland. The alliance's literature states that Doerr chose the symbol specifically for its denotative meaning in the context of chemistry and physics: "a complete exchange of energy–that moment or span of time witness to absolute activity". In 1970, graphic designer Tom Doerr selected the lower-case Greek letter lambda (λ) to be the symbol of the New York chapter of the Gay Activists Alliance. The combined male-female symbol (⚦) is used to represent androgyne or transgender people and when additionally combined with the female (♀) and male (♂) symbols (⚧) it indicates gender inclusivity, though it is also used as a transgender symbol. These symbols first appeared in the 1970s. Two interlocking female symbols (⚢) represent a lesbian or the lesbian community, and two interlocking male symbols (⚣) a gay male or the gay male community. Following Linnaeus, biologists use the planetary symbol for Venus to represent the female sex, and the planetary symbol for Mars to represent the male sex. The female and male gender symbols are derived from the astronomical symbols for the planets Venus and Mars respectively. So there’s still a slight possibility of males, but the deeper we go, the more ferociously, inventively, asexually genomically independent these gals appear to get.Further information on sex and gender symbols: Gender symbol § Sexual orientation and gender politics Lesbian and gay interlocked gender sex symbols Veronika pointed me to new research that indicates the evidence of meiosis - the recombination of DNA with genes from two biological parents- in bdelloid genomes is, in fact, bdelloid rotifer females being able to undergo incomplete meiosis that looks nearly identical to the real thing- all on their own. And lemme tell ya- the scientists have been LOOKIN. But we’ve seen none before (possibly during) or since. Importantly, no male bdelloid rotifers hath ever been spotted- ok, yes, a guy 100 years ago on a frozen lake in Denmark was like, I believe I saw a couple, but I can’t provide evidence. I swan-dived into the day by interviewing scientist Veronika Laine who *gasp* suggested in a 2021 paper that bdelloid rotifers (those icons of asexual females-only reproduction from a few newsletters ago ( and correction: it’s 30 million, not 80 million, years of asexual reproduction- I got ahead of myself/carried away with concepts of feminist resistance to evolutionary theory) ) might be reproducing SEXUALLY after all. |
